Summary
Barbie: Explorer lets you globe‑trotting as the iconic doll, hopping from Tibetan peaks to Egyptian pyramids and deep into an African jungle, all in search of four glittering relics. The game feels like a kid‑friendly, G‑rated spin on classic platform‑action—run, jump, swing, climb, and even dive while dodging roaming critters like camels, elephants and goats that block your path but never chase you.
What’s surprising is the two‑player mode; you can team up with a friend, each controlling a Barbie to solve puzzles and race to the level’s finish line. The controls are deliberately simple, which earned the title a mixed critical reception: some felt the “Tomb Raider‑esque” setup lacked depth and had clunky handling, while others praised its nonstop, arcade‑style action as perfect for younger gamers.
Overall, the experience is less about combat and more about navigating whimsical, exotic environments, making it a nostalgic slice of early‑2000s adventure that feels both familiar and distinctively playful.
Storyline
Barbie: Explorer follows the fashion doll turned reporter who uncovers an ancient, shattered mirror in a museum. The mirror is missing four pieces, and its hidden power will be released once it is whole, prompting Barbie to travel the globe in search of the fragments. She journeys to three accessible regions—Tibet, Egypt, and Africa—each divided into three levels that culminate in a boss battle, and later unlocks a fourth area, Babylon, for the final piece. After defeating the bosses and retrieving all four artifacts, Barbie returns to the museum, fits each treasure into its proper slot on the mirror, and restores it, completing her adventure.
