Storyline

Ape Escape opens with a mischievous white‑haired monkey named Specter donning a prototype Monkey Helmet created by a professor. The helmet boosts his intelligence but also corrupts his mind, prompting him to give identical helmets to the park’s apes and unleash them on the laboratory where the professor and his assistant Katie are building a time machine. Spike, accompanied by his friend Buzz, is whisked through various eras—dinosaurs, medieval times, and the present—by Specter, who also brainwashes Jake to aid his scheme. The professor tasks Spike with recapturing every escaped ape and returning them to the present to prevent history from being rewritten. After a series of captures across time, Spike confronts Specter in a chaotic theme‑park dimension, frees the professor, Katie, and Buzz, defeats Specter in the Peak Point Matrix, and sends the captured apes back to the zoo.
