Summary

A Bug's Life transforms Pixar’s garden into a PlayStation platformer where you guide Flik with throwing berries that evolve from weak red to homing purple and a decisive gold form. The five lands each house three levels, ending in a boss or an exit, and completing a stage unlocks original movie clips.

Seeds scattered throughout act as puzzles; planting one yields a plant that can heal, shield, boost jumps or fire berries, and collecting colored seed tokens changes its abilities. Flik’s health appears as a leaf that bites away when damaged, and gathering the letters F‑L‑I‑K grants an extra life. Floating telescopes provide a panoramic view of hidden items or exits.

The game debuted in 1998‑99, reappeared on the PS Store in 2010, and despite flashy presentation received low scores (2.7/10 GameSpot, 4/10 IGN) for its sluggish controls. It still sold about a million copies in the U.S., pulling $50 million and ranking 13th best‑selling in its first month. It also won the PC Children’s Entertainment Title of the Year award.

Storyline

A Bug’s Life on PlayStation takes the core of the 1998 Disney/Pixar hit and reshapes it for a console adventure. While the film’s plot provides the backbone, the game introduces new twists and level designs that diverge from the movie’s exact sequence. Players step into the shoes of the inventive ant Flik, guiding him through a series of vibrant environments that echo the film’s jungle and ant‑hill settings. Each stage presents platforming challenges, puzzle elements, and enemy encounters that expand on the original story. The result is a familiar yet fresh narrative experience that lets fans relive the movie’s spirit while exploring new gameplay moments.
