Summary
Legacy of Ys: Books I & II brings the first two entries of Falcom’s famed action‑RPG series to the DS in a polished 3‑D package. The remake keeps the fast‑paced combat and exploration fans love, but swaps flat sprites for polygonal models, adds a fully re‑orchestrated soundtrack and fresh artwork that feels true to the originals while looking modern.
A brand‑new English translation smooths the story lines, and the DS’s touchscreen handles melee swings and item management with intuitive gestures. For a little extra fun, the compilation includes local wireless multiplayer, letting two players battle through dungeons side‑by‑side.
Even after years on the market, this blend of nostalgia and polish makes it a standout title for anyone curious about where the Ys saga began.
Storyline
The Ys series follows the young adventurer Adol Christin, whose obsession with exploration drives the story. Together with his comrade Dogi, he confronts demons that arise from the overuse of the ancient Black Pearl's magic. Their journey leads them to the floating island of Ys, where the ruined Darm Tower and the lifted Solomon Shrine loom over the landscape.
Demons attempt to reconnect the shrine by rebuilding the Darm Tower, but Adol’s interventions thwart their plans. Throughout the saga, Adol uncovers ancient lore and battles the forces threatening the island. The narrative weaves themes of ancient artifacts, sky‑bound architecture, and relentless exploration.
