Summary
Thrillville: Off the Rails on the DS feels like its own experience, separate from the console versions that Frontier released. DC Studios built a handheld title that keeps the park‑building core while reshaping the attractions and mini‑games for the touch‑screen and dual screens. You can still place roller coasters, snack stalls and restrooms, but the game leans heavily into its Party Play mode, letting friends race through mini‑games like dunk tanks or arcade challenges directly from the DS handheld. The mini‑games are the most praised part, offering quick local multiplayer that works well with the system’s “download play” feature. While the graphics are simple compared to Xbox or PC, the colourful sprites and quirky animations capture the series’ charm, making it a pleasant distraction for short sessions on the go.
Storyline
In **Thrillville: Off the Rails**, Uncle Mortimer congratulates you for turning your park into one of the world’s best theme parks and for out‑shining the rival Globo‑Joy from the first game. He also warns that Globo‑Joy’s ruthless president, Vernon Garrison, may be plotting revenge.
Soon you discover each of your parks has been sabotaged: Garrison has bribed critics to trash the reviews of Thrillville Stunts, hypnotised guests in Thristillville Giant, sent swarms of robotic freeloaders to the Otherworlds area, and used disgruntled staff to vandalise Thrillville Explorer. The sabotage trail leads to a mole inside your staff—Garrison’s son, Vernon Jr., disguised as a guest named Tim Twinklefingers. After tracking him down, you challenge him to a Robo KO match in the new holiday park, defeat him, and send him home.
