Summary

Super Princess Peach lets you step into the pink‑capped heroine’s shoes (and her trusty parasol, Perry) as she darts across Vibe Island to rescue Mario, Luigi and the captive Toads. The game’s charm comes from its emotion‑driven powers: Joy lets Peach soar and spin a cyclone, Rage cloaks her in fire‑fueled stomps, Gloom speeds her up while she weeps torrents of tears, and Calm restores her heart meter. Each Vibe drains a gauge that refills with turquoise gems or by absorbing foes, and the bottom DS screen lets you toggle the moods on the fly.

The island is split into eight worlds, each with five standard stages and a boss arena, plus 24 hidden extra levels that unlock as you free the Toads and Luigi. A shop stocked with coins lets you boost health, expand the Vibe Gauge, and even purchase the “Endless Vibe” upgrade so you can keep using powers without depletion. Minigames let you control rescued Toads in quirky challenges, while Perry’s dream replays add a whimsical bonus after each boss.

Critics praised the bright graphics, catchy soundtrack and inventive mechanics, though some noted the low difficulty. By mid‑2007 the title had sold over 1.7 million copies, ranking among the DS’s best‑sellers. Shigeru Miyamoto emphasized that Peach was meant to feel “Peach‑like”—optimistic and strong—rather than a damsel waiting for rescue, a sentiment that shines through the game’s playful confidence.

Storyline

Bowser learns of a legendary emotion‑controlling artifact called the Vibe Scepter, hidden on Vibe Island near the Mushroom Kingdom, and builds a summer villa there to exploit it. His second‑in‑command, Army Hammer Bro, retrieves the scepter and entrusts it to a Goomba, which delivers it to Princess Peach’s castle. The scepter’s power throws the castle’s residents into emotional chaos, allowing Bowler’s troops to capture Mario, Luigi, and many Toads and imprison them across the island.

When Peach and Toadsworth return to the castle, they find the disarray and a note from Bowser announcing the capture of the Mario brothers. Determined to rescue them, Peach sets off for Vibe Island, armed with a sentient parasol named Perry that Toadsworth reluctantly gives her.

Throughout the island, scattered Vibes grant Peach new abilities as she defeats bosses and frees Toads. Each night, Perry’s dream‑flashbacks reveal his origin as a magical boy transformed into an umbrella by enigmatic magicians before being sold to Toadsworth.

After defeating Giant Kamek and freeing Luigi, Peach and Perry confront Bowser and Army Hammer Bro in the villa. Bowser enlarges himself with the scepter, but Peach defeats him with Bob‑ombs, sending him flying. She rescues Mario, returns everyone to the Mushroom Kingdom, and an epilogue hints the scepter may now reside in the player’s own home.
