Summary

Summon Night: Twin Age (often just called Twin Age) offers a surprisingly deep action‑RPG experience on the DS. The entire combat loop is driven by the stylus: tap a spot to move, tap enemies to strike, and use pop‑up windows to fire skills, spells, or items. You control a party of three—two selectable protagonists and an AI companion that can even be a summoned monster you capture and bottle on the world map. Each member earns its own rank, unlocking new abilities and improving performance as you use them more often. The top‑down hack‑and‑slash feel nods to classics like Diablo II and Ragnarok Online.

The game’s art is bright and polished, with crisp sprites and vivid spell effects that made me feel the world was alive. Customization runs deep thanks to skill trees that reach seven levels and item‑crafting options that let you tune weapons and summons. Reviewers praised the charm of the presentation and the flexibility of the touch controls, though a few noted occasional AI quirks and repetitive exploration. Overall, Twin Age proved that the DS could handle a full‑fledged action RPG without feeling watered down.

Storyline

Summon Night: Twin Age unfolds on the world of Clardona, where humans and the beast‑like Kascuza are locked in a bitter rivalry. A fragile peace was forged after humans drove the Kascuza onto the island of Jarazi, while spirits from another realm occasionally appear as nature spirits or Summon Beasts. A laboratory accident caused a young girl named Reiha’s summoning power to spiral out of control; presumed dead, she actually survived and was hidden among the Kascuza on Jarazi, together with the resulting Summon Beast boy, Aldo. Seven years later, as their coming‑of‑age ceremony approaches, the island’s nature spirits erupt into chaos, prompting the pair to investigate the disturbance beneath the kingdom.

Reiha, a human raised by Kascuza, is upbeat, loves gardening and cooking, and fights with projectile attacks and a wide range of spirit magic—sky, wind, earth, water, fire, as well as healing and buff/debuff spells. Her magic stats are high, but her physical attack and HP are low. Aldo, the Summon Beast created by the accident, favors blunt and edged weapons—sword, axe, spear, and fists—plus supportive buff magic; his strength and HP are high while his magical ability is weak. Despite their differences, both are brave and determined to protect each other and uncover the source of the strange events.
