Summary
Spider-Man: Web of Shadows on the DS blends classic side‑scrolling beats with Metroidvania exploration. I can flip between the nimble red suit and the power‑heavy black symbiote suit at any moment, each granting distinct moves and combo trees that grow as XP stacks from every busted enemy. The game drops me into a slimy, infected Manhattan where I unlock new web‑tech and suit upgrades to wade through slime‑filled tunnels and broken rooftops. Summoning allies like Black Cat, Green Goblin or Nightcrawler adds a burst of extra firepower, while a touch‑screen revival lets me sketch health orbs to pull myself back from the brink. With only four allies to call on and a mission‑choice system that decides my next route, every playthrough feels like charting a fresh, dark corner of the web‑slinger’s world.
Storyline
Spider-Man: Web of Shadows on the Nintendo DS kicks off with a symbiote invasion already underway. After battling several symbiotes, Peter is infected but retains control, recreating his black suit that he can remove at will. Believing Venom is behind the chaos, he hunts the anti‑hero, crossing paths with Black Cat, who alerts him that Nightcrawler is coordinating civilian evacuations while the Green Goblin is planting bombs to fight the symbiotes.
Choosing to aid Nightcrawler twice, the Goblin once, or both once each, Spider‑Man battles super‑symbiotes and eventually confronts Venom at a hive. Venom admits he’s trying to stop the invasion, then falls too weak to continue. Spider‑Man presses deeper, defeats the Symbiote Leader, and escapes as the hive collapses.
The ending varies: helping Nightcrawler (or both allies) saves Manhattan and frees its citizens, while siding with the Goblin twice crowns Spider‑Man as the new symbiote ruler, worshipped by the infected populace.
