Summary
Shrek Super Slam throws the whole Shrek cast into a chaotic, 3‑D melee where up to four friends can brawl in fully destructible stages like the Poison Apple Inn or Dragon’s Gate. Walls crumble, debris flies, and a scatter of weapons, potions and magical items keep the action fresh. The game’s humor and pop‑culture parody feel right at home with the fast‑paced fighting.
Each of the 20 fighters—ranging from Shrek and Donkey to original faces like Luna the witch and the Black Knight—brings a signature move, such as Shrek’s flatulent “Green Storm,” Donkey’s “Juggle Punt,” or Puss‑in‑Boots’ “Love‑Stun.” Ten of them are locked behind progression, and every character sports multiple skins. The Nintendo DS version even adds exclusive playable characters Thelonious and a Knight, giving the handheld its own twist.
Three multiplayer modes keep things varied: Melee rewards Slam points for timed combos, King of the Hill challenges you to hold a rising platform, and Slammageddon treats every hit as a Slam with wildly different effects—Robin Hood summons an Arrow Swarm, Pinocchio’s nose becomes a Buzz Bomber, and Fiona’s Ogre Aria blasts musical projectiles. John Kassir’s announcer voice and a moving stage featuring Mongo the Giant Gingerbread Man add extra flair.
Storyline
Shrek Super Slam on the Nintendo DS follows a quirky bedtime mission. Shrek, Donkey and the rest of the gang try to get the mischievous Dronkeys to fall asleep so they can all watch a special episode of Survivor: Sherwood Forest at the Dragon’s Keep. Their plan goes awry when one Dronkey accidentally shreds the family’s storybook, forcing the friends to improvise by taking turns inventing new stories. Each tale brings the Dronkeys closer to slumber, and finally they drift off.
In the game’s epilogue, the peace is broken when Shrek, frustrated by the overly chatty announcer, shouts at him, which wakes the Dronkeys once more. The ending humorously ties the storytelling chaos back to the game’s playful tone.
