Summary
Secret Files 2: Puritas Cordis builds on the award‑winning adventure formula of its predecessor, adding a third playable character to broaden the mystery. The point‑and‑click mechanics remain familiar while the story expands to new locations.
The game’s facial‑animation system maps each character’s emotions to their speech, so Nina’s surprise or Max’s frustration feels surprisingly real on the DS. Puzzle design stays logical and fair, rewarding careful observation rather than guesswork.
Backgrounds are pre‑rendered with impressive detail, and real‑time light and shadow on 3D characters give the world a subtle depth that’s rare for a handheld title.
I also love the tongue‑in‑cheek fourth‑wall moment where Nina refuses to pick up a gun because “minigames have been forbidden,” showcasing the developers’ humor. The mix of crisp visuals, expressive characters, and clever design makes the handheld adventure stand out.
Storyline
In Secret Files 2: Puritas Cordis, Nina Kalenkov tries to escape a world teetering on disaster—famine in Africa, floods in Southeast Asia, economic crisis in Europe, and civil wars in South America—by boarding a nostalgic cruise to Portugal. The trip turns deadly when she witnesses a murder in the Hamburg docks and discovers the dead man’s suitcase contains a cryptic 1681 letter about Zandona’s apocalyptic prophecies.
The letter leads Nina, alongside vicar David Korell, on a globe‑spanning hunt for a mysterious "key" hidden in the ruins of Gatineau. Their investigation uncovers the modern cult Puritas Cordis, headed by televangelist Pat Shelton, which is orchestrating the natural catastrophes to fulfill Zandona’s predictions. The duo follows clues to Paris’ secret Cardinal archives, learns the sect plans a massive tsunami aimed at the UN General Assembly, and is captured just as the plot reaches its climax.
Max Gruber, after surviving a bomb‑triggered volcanic eruption in Indonesia, rescues Nina. Together they trigger a self‑destruct sequence in Shelton’s base, thwarting the tsunami and saving millions. A humorous epilogue shows the fates of all characters, wrapping up the chaotic adventure.
