Summary
SaGa 2: Hihou Densetsu – Goddess of Destiny’s DS makeover feels like a love letter to the series. The original Game Boy world is rendered in fully 3D cel‑shaded graphics, with Gen Kobayashi’s fresh character art giving everything a bright, comic‑book flare, while Kenji Ito’s rearranged soundtrack breathes new life into the classic melodies.
Gameplay shifts from random battles to visible monsters roaming the map, letting you chase, avoid, or even chain multiple encounters for bonus experience and loot. The “Thread of Fate” system lets party members combine attacks and build affinity, unlocking hidden story beats. A multiplayer arena up to four players pits squads against towering bosses for rare items. Akitoshi Kawazu directed the overhaul and Racjin handled development, delivering a sleek, strategic RPG that feels both nostalgic and surprisingly modern.
Storyline
In SaGa 2: Hihou Densetsu - Goddess of Destiny (often just called SaGa 2), the player‑created protagonist sets out to find their missing father by hunting the 77 MAGI stones created when the statue of the goddess Isis was shattered. Joined by three other adventurers, they travel across a chain of worlds linked by the Pillar of Sky, gathering the scattered MAGI.
When all but one MAGI are collected, the god Apollo forces the party to surrender the stones, threatening their allies. The absent MAGI causes Apollo’s plan to backfire, triggering earthquakes that ravage the connected worlds. The heroes descend the Pillar, restore Isis, and defeat the mechanical Arsenals that guard it, allowing the goddess to heal the realms. The story ends with the protagonist setting off on a new adventure alongside their parents.
