Summary

Rockin' Pretty (known overseas as Diva Girls: Making the Music and in Japan as Happy Star Band) lets you step into the shoes of four teenage girls chasing rock‑star fame. You pick guitar, bass, keyboard or drums and use the DS stylus to tap, strum or beat in time, watching stars pile up on the top screen as you nail each note. Those stars turn into points that unlock snazzy outfits, hairstyles and even new instruments, and you can trade them with friends via local wireless. The game offers easy, normal and hard modes, plus an AutoPlay option if you just want to watch the band perform. Multiplayer lets you jam together, and the whole experience feels like a glossy, pop‑culture spin‑off of the earlier Princess on Ice title.

Storyline

Every year bands from across the country gather for the Rockin' Pretty contest, where winners earn a record deal, multiple hits, and stardom. Mai, who has been dreaming of entering the competition, watches a Rockin' Pretty DVD in the lobby of Rockin' Hits Studio. Her friend Ken introduces her to his sister Kara, the bassist of the band Starlight, who urgently needs a guitarist. After a successful rendition of “See You Again,” the group welcomes Mai as their new guitarist.

Starlight’s first public gig takes place in Central Park, drawing a crowd but being eclipsed by the boy band The Dreamboats. To find more venues, the girls seek help from former contestant Michelle, who secures them a slot at the famous Star Café. The café’s owner, DJ H‑Star—also the contest MC—praises their soul despite their limited skill and hints that his approval could boost their chances in Rockin' Pretty.

At the preliminaries Starlight performs first, yet only The Dreamboats and Love Connection advance directly. As runners‑up they receive a second chance at Melody Mall, where they are the 15th of thirty bands to play. Feeling they didn’t connect with the audience, Mio suggests a cuter, more energetic set, leading them to perform “Fluttering Heart” and “Happy Sunday.” The new style earns them a spot in the semi‑finals.

Before the semi‑finals the group stages a surprise concert at Symphony Park, with Ken delivering their instruments; the show is a hit. Confident and spirited, they compete in the semi‑finals, and DJ H‑Star announces that Starlight and The Dreamboats will move on to the finals, noting the girls’ improvement. In the final round they reminisce about their journey and close the contest with their best performance yet, the song “Rockin' Nova.”
