Summary

Resident Evil: Deadly Silence brings the original mansion thrill to the DS with a clean split‑screen overhaul. The top screen constantly shows a handy map, ammo and health, while the bottom screen handles the action and lets me tap locks or swipe the stylus to swing a knife in first‑person "Knife Battles." Two modes let me choose: Classic sticks close to the 1996 original, and Rebirth cranks up enemy counts, adds new puzzles that even use the microphone and the 180‑degree turning mechanic borrowed from Resident Evil 3.

All character models received fresher textures and new outfits for Jill, Chris and Rebecca, and the weapons match the 2002 remake’s design. Updated controls bring the tactical reload and knife button from Resident Evil 4, and door cutscenes can be skipped for faster pacing. The game also earned a Mature rating, the first DS title to do so.

Wireless LAN lets up to four friends join either a cooperative escape challenge or a competitive score‑hunt across three stages, with nine playable characters to pick from.

Storyline

On July 24, 1998 a string of gruesome murders erupts on the outskirts of Raccoon City, prompting the Raccoon City Police Department's S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team to investigate the Arklay forest. When Bravo loses contact, Alpha Team—Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Barry Burton, Joseph Frost, Brad Vickers and Albert Wesker—is dispatched, discovers Bravo’s crashed helicopter and is ambushed by a pack of ravenous Dobermanns, killing Joseph and forcing Brad to flee. The survivors take refuge in an abandoned mansion that doubles as an Umbrella research facility, where they encounter undead corridors, mutated creatures and the mole‑in‑their‑midst, Wesker, who releases a prototype Tyrant. After battling the Tyrant and rescuing any trapped allies, the team triggers the mansion’s self‑destruct and escapes via helipad, signaling Brad with a flare as the building erupts. The events form the core storyline of Resident Evil: Deadly Silence on the Nintendo DS.
