Summary
Ragnarok DS translates the sprawling MMO RPG into a touch‑heavy DS experience, guiding the player through a stylus‑driven quest chain peppered with side‑quests you can only track one at a time. Your character’s hair color, style, and even gender are adjustable, with new options unlocking after each Mirage Tower boss falls. While the story follows the familiar Ragnarok Online setting, the game strips out the massive multiplayer aspect in favor of local co‑op and focused single‑player content.
Up to three friends can join you in dungeon raids that drop rare loot, and the exclusive Dark Knight and Shaman classes add fresh combat flavor. The crown jewel is the 50‑floor Mirage Tower, a boss‑every‑five‑floors gauntlet where loot is divided by a bidding screen after each fight, while monsters themselves grant no experience. Because computer‑controlled allies can’t enter the tower, the challenge rests wholly on you and any human partners.
Storyline
Ragnarok DS drops players into a world where the major powers live in peace, unaware that a secretive scholarly group is plotting to resurrect an ancient goddess. Their ritual demands a living vessel and the sacrifice of every soul, setting the stage for looming chaos. The story follows an orphan adventurer—referred to as Ares in some material and Ales in others—who leaves his forgotten village after his mother’s death and his father’s long‑term disappearance. Early on he encounters Shiera, a mysterious girl who has lost her memories and possesses strange powers, and together they chase clues about the goddess’s return. As they travel, they recruit companions, complete tasks, and eventually form a guild; the completed guild unlocks storage, new recruit characters, and the ability to edit party members, cementing the player’s foothold in the unfolding conflict.
