Summary

Puzzle Quest 2 keeps the addictive match‑3 combat while letting me tailor a fantasy hero in four distinct classes. A barbarian leans on stamina and strength for brute force, a sorcerer dishes out spells by filling blue mana, an assassin spikes foes with poison‑laden combos, and a templar relies on morale‑boosted defense. Each class drives five color‑coded attributes—red, yellow, blue, green, purple—that double as mana pools, so topping up red gems fuels critical hits and green gems shore up health. The board still rewards chains of three or more, but matching four grants an extra move and five summons a wildcard, and illegal moves no longer punish you.

Outside the story mode I can toss the DS or Xbox Live versions into online battles or dive into quirky mini‑games for extra gold and experience. Critics on Metacritic gave it low‑mid 70s for the DS and solid 80 for Xbox, praising its deeper strategy and smooth blend of RPG and puzzle elements, while noting the setting feels familiar but compelling for a quick puzzle fix.
