Storyline

In Professor Layton and the Unwound Future, Layton and Luke attend Dr. Alain Stahngun’s time‑machine demonstration, which catastrophically makes the scientist and Prime Minister Bill Hawks vanish. A week later a letter, supposedly from Luke ten years ahead, leads them to a hidden clock shop where an elderly couple reveals another clock‑shaped machine that thrusts the duo into a steam‑punk version of London a decade into the future. There they meet Future Luke, who tells them that Future Layton now runs a mob called the Family and has seized control of the city.

The pair agree to help Future Luke, briefly return to the past to investigate the accident that killed Layton’s girlfriend Claire, and then head back to the faux‑future with Flora, Inspector Chelmey and his aide Barton. They discover that Future Layton is actually Dr. Stahngun (Dimitri Allen), desperate to rescue Claire, while the true mastermind—Future Luke, revealed as a vengeful boy named Clive—commands a mobile fortress.

With Don Paolo’s unexpected aid, the heroes free the captive scientists, thwart the fortress, and learn that the “future” London is a cavern replica designed to motivate the scientists. Claire reappears as Celeste, saying goodbye before returning to her tragic death, and Luke prepares to move overseas, leaving Layton with a heartfelt promise of lasting friendship.
