Summary

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands on the DS feels like a full‑screen 2D side‑scroller that lives entirely on the touch screen. I move the Prince by dragging the stylus in the direction I want him to go, hold it part‑way up a wall to climb, and stretch it across a gap to make him jump – there’s literally no button pressed. Combat follows the same logic, with each sword slash and block traced with the pen.

The game also brings back the signature rewind hourglass; a quick tap freezes time, lets the Prince dodge fast obstacles or revive after a fall, and consumes a limited sand resource before resetting at the last checkpoint.

Developed by Ubisoft Casablanca in about a year – the same crew that handled the prior DS entry and the Fallen King – the title received mixed reviews, landing roughly 57 out of 100 on Metacritic.

Storyline

The DS version of Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands follows the Prince being abducted by a cult. They take him to an ancient Indian temple, use his sword that contains Djinn queen Razia to perform a blood sacrifice. The cult uses his royal blood and Razia’s sand powers to free an evil force, erasing his memory and stealing Razia’s powers. The temple collapses, Prince falls into a pit.

At the bottom, Razia’s spirit appears, guides him to his weapon and explains the ceremony caused his amnesia. She tells him they are longtime friends and that they must hunt the three cultists who mutated into giant sand monsters after stealing their powers. The Prince and Razia travel across India, defeat each monster and recover his memories and her sand abilities.

With powers restored, they pursue the cult’s resurrected leader, who is conquering Babylon. They defeat him, but Razia dies. The Prince throws the sword containing her spirit from a Babylonian tower, where it dissolves into desert sand.
