Summary
Populous DS lets you become one of five elemental deities, each wielding a distinct set of miracles—earthquakes, tidal waves, flames, tornados, or nature’s harvest—to shape terrain and steer a growing civilization. The heart of the experience is a 50‑mission campaign punctuated by the “Warrior Hunt” mini‑game, while a free‑play mode lets you practice tricks before diving into wireless matches for up to four players. Battles unfold across ten wildly themed maps—grass plains, snowfields, magma pits, even an 8‑bit plain—each throwing its own buffs and debuffs into the mix. You generate psychic energy by growing worshippers’ houses, then spend it on terraforming, power boosts, or sabotage against opponents. The timer counts down to an inevitable Armageddon, forcing you to ready your followers for a final showdown. All five Gods become unlockable; their demonic counterparts share the same powers but remain CPU‑only. Critics gave the game a mixed reception, settling around a 60/100 Metacritic score.
Storyline
In Populous DS you step into the shoes of a deity tasked with guiding a fledgling tribe toward greatness. Your worshippers look to you to build a thriving civilization that can ultimately outmatch a rival god and its followers. By wielding divine powers you can intervene directly—raising hills, carving valleys, and reshaping the map to create fertile ground for expansion. Each act of terraforming not only alters the landscape but also boosts the population’s growth and strength, turning a modest settlement into a powerful empire. The ultimate goal is to out‑develop and defeat the opposing deity, proving your supremacy as the world’s true creator.
