Summary
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team throws you, an ordinary human, into the body of a Pokémon and sends you on rescue missions across randomly generated dungeons with a partner friend. Combat is turn‑based, using the four moves you learn plus a generic attack, projectiles and items.
The DS version uses dual screens and better graphics than its GBA counterpart, Red Rescue Team. Each game holds six exclusive Pokémon. A personality quiz at the start picks one of sixteen starter Pokémon, from Bulbasaur to Skitty, and your partner must be a different type.
The game’s mission board offers rescue, delivery and escort jobs that award Rescue Points and raise your rank. Losing a client or a partner ends the dungeon, though fallen allies revive back at base.
By mid‑2007 Blue Rescue Team had moved over 3 million units worldwide, contributing to a combined 5.25‑million‑copy sales tally for the pair. Critics were split: Metacritic 62/100, IGN 6.5/10, GameSpot 5.2/10, Nintendo Power 80/100, and it earned a Children’s Game of the Year nomination. A November 2005 bug could erase GBA saves via DS link, but Nintendo issued a replacement cartridge patch in December.
Storyline
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team puts you in a world of talking Pokémon. You awaken with amnesia, only recalling you were human, which shocks the locals. A friendly Pokémon becomes your partner and you form a rescue team to help Pokémon trapped in dungeons. Frequent natural disasters make the missions urgent, and you soon meet rival teams led by Alakazam and Gengar.
Rumors of a cursed human tied to the disasters lead a Gardevoir to appear in your dreams. Xatu tells you the legend is likely a coincidence, but Gengar spreads the accusation, forcing you to flee. You push through tougher dungeons, recruit Absol, and are saved by Ninetelles, who warns that the awakened Groudon endangers the world. After defeating Groudon and rescuing Alakazam’s team, you learn a meteor is the true source of the catastrophes.
With Xatu’s help you craft a Teleport Gem, ascend to the sky, and battle Rayquaza. After a tough fight Rayquaza agrees to destroy the incoming meteor, saving the planet. The world returns to peace, but the spell forces you to become human again and leave the Pokémon world. A post‑credits wish brings you back to the rescue‑team base in Pokémon form, shocking everyone.
