Summary
Pac‑Man World 3 stands out as the only title in the trilogy that never launched in Japan, and it gives Pac‑Man a full voice for the first time outside the cartoon series. The DS version, ported by Human Soft, leans heavily into action‑filled combat while keeping classic pellet and fruit collecting.
New moves like a three‑bounce Butt‑Bounce that emits a shockwave on the third hit and a halt‑any‑time Rev‑Roll add tactical depth. A dedicated punch, pole‑swinging mechanics, and fixed‑direction B‑Doings diversify platforming, while Pac‑Dot Chains generated by colored crystals sprinkle visual flair and rewards.
Power pellets are reserved for dramatic confrontations with Spectral Monsters, and fresh pellet types—Electro‑Shock and Ribbon Loop—bring electricity‑based stuns and damaging trails. Mech sequences let you pilot Toc‑Man’s fists and spin attacks, and even Clyde gets a blaster ride.
A hidden museum unlocks the original arcade Pac‑Man and an interview with creator Toru Iwatani. The DS version resurfaced in a 2012 Dual Pack with Namco Museum DS, though reviewers noted several technical glitches.
Storyline
During Pac‑Man’s 25th birthday celebration, he is abruptly teleported by Orson, a former adversary from the original Pac‑Man World. Orson warns Pac‑Man that Erwin, a short, malicious genius, has built a siphon that pulls raw energy from the Spectral Realm, destabilizing the barrier between that ghost‑filled dimension and Pac‑Land. The resulting merge creates an environmental catastrophe that threatens both worlds. Soon after, hostile Spectral monsters—fiery orange, green, and purple—attack Pac‑Man, all under Erwin’s control, while Inky and Blinky (Clyde) are kidnapped and Pinky and Clyde (Blinky) manage to escape.
Teaming up with Orson, Pinky, and the rescued Clyde, Pac‑Man battles through Erwin’s manipulated forces to stop the siphon and restore the boundary. Their goal is to prevent the collapse of both realms and bring balance back to Pac‑Land and the Spectral Realm.
