Summary

Okaeri! Chibi-Robo! Happy Richie Oosouji is the third entry in the Chibi‑Robo! series and the second to appear on the Nintendo DS, but it never left Japan – Nintendo kept it domestic after the previous titles underperformed overseas. The game sticks to the series' core premise: you control a 10‑centimetre robot tasked with tidying a household, but it adds a few quirky tools. A tiny vacuum lets you suck up dirt while plugged into an outlet, and a miniature sifter uncovers gems that can be sold for cash, which you then spend on furniture via a home‑shopping phone service. Power isn’t free, either; you must feed rubbish into a trash compactor to generate electricity for the outlets, turning mundane chores into a resource‑management puzzle. Critics responded warmly, with Weekly Famitsu awarding a 34/40, and the title debuted as the fifth‑best‑selling game in Japan, moving 35,000 units in its first week and topping 130,000 copies by year‑end.

Storyline

The story of Okaeri! Chibi‑Robo! Happy Richie Oosouji opens with Chibi‑Robo stranded in a wrecked building with only six watts left. After a brief shutdown he is recharged and awakens in a tiny Chibi‑House where his robot manager Telly explains that they have been bought by Jenny Sanderson – now an adult with a son named Keith and a dog named Lucky – to help with the family’s mounting financial woes.

While living in Jenny’s home, Chibi‑Robo joins a "Savings Tournament" and befriends a cast of animated toys: Iberico the pig police officer, the Free Rangers, wrestler Habanero, shark Mesa, alarm‑clock Acapella, farmer Ketchup, and the skull‑like Skullton, among others. He also discovers a ghost‑run casino in the attic, overseen by mobster spirit Don De Niro, and encounters both cooperative and hostile specters.

Chibi‑Robo’s daily chores range from collecting ghosts for Don’s casino, helping Iberico clear bees and battling a giga‑rat and the Rat King, assisting the Free Rangers with basement treasure, cooking burgers with Keith, cleaning Jenny’s washing machine, and aiding Ketchup in finding the Legendary Fork Guitar. When Keith wishes his missing father Karl back, the ghosts grant the wish: Karl’s spirit inhabits the savings box and grows to human size under moonlight, but he cannot move on until he reunites with Jenny.

After a series of ring‑retrieval challenges – one ring hidden in a closet, the other guarded by Don – Karl is forced to work as a strip‑dancer before Don trades the ring for the "Phantom’s Treasure" that Jenny desires. With the treasure secured, Karl’s wedding to Jenny is staged in the backyard, Keith buys a dress, and after a showdown that sends Chibi‑Robo back to the wrecked building in a dream‑like battle, the savings box is reclaimed and Karl finally ascends. The game closes with Jenny reflecting on her late father George and the original Chibi‑Robo from the first adventure.
