Summary
MechAssault: Phantom War taps into the classic BattleTech lore, putting you right behind the HUD of a BattleMech as the action unfolds on the Nintendo DS. The top screen serves up a smooth, third‑person view of the battlefield, while the touch screen doubles as the cockpit, letting you fire, aim, and manage systems with the stylus. This split‑screen setup gives a surprisingly immersive experience for a handheld, feeling more like piloting a real mech than an ordinary shooter. The game’s control layout emphasizes quick thumb‑gestures for targeting and weapon selection, keeping the action fast‑paced yet strategically deep. It’s a solid throwback for anyone who loves piloting giant metal hulks and wants that tactical edge on the go.
Storyline
MechAssault: Phantom War (often just called Phantom War) drops you into the ongoing conflict between the Inner Sphere's Houses and Clans. You play as Vallen Brice, a Mech Warrior, expert hacker and Tech Warrant tasked with a critical mission. For sixty years the Republic of the Sphere’s planets have been cut off because every Hyperpulse Generator has been crippled by a computer virus. The Lyran Alliance, fearing the infected generators could be turned into weapons, sends Vallen into combat to infiltrate each generator and stop any malicious use.
