Summary

Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects (often just called Marvel Nemesis) landed on the DS as a fast‑paced 3D fighter where you could pit icons like Spider‑Man, Punisher, Captain America, and Wolverine against a brand‑new cadre of villains known as the Imperfects. The roster mixed ten classic Marvel figures with eight original creations, and each match unfolded in destructible arenas that encouraged chaotic, off‑beat combos. Developed by Sensory Sweep Studios under the EA‑Marvel partnership, the handheld version leaned on influences from Power Stone and Super Smash Bros, trading deep combos for broader movement and flashy finishing moves that could trigger once an opponent’s health dipped below 25%. Despite the ambitious tie‑in comic series and the promise of novel characters, the DS incarnation earned a grim 34/100 on Metacritic, reflecting the generally unfavorable reception it received from critics.

Storyline

In Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects on the DS, heroes are forced to battle alien‑infested foes while Daredevil, under Niles Van Roekel’s control, calls for Elektra’s help. Elektra finds him at the Daily Bugle, defeats him and removes an alien device from his neck, freeing him and exposing Roekel’s plan to unleash his Imperfects on the city. Meanwhile, a young girl named Maya trains under Roekel’s direction, destroying alien devices and adopting the codename Paragon. She eventually breaks free from a mind‑controlling device Magneto uses, defeats him, and learns she isn’t evil. Maya confronts Roekel—who reveals himself as an alien mastermind behind the invasion—strips him of his life force, ends the alien threat, and joins the Imperfects in a tentative truce with the heroes.
