Summary
Luminous Arc 2 dazzles with its hand‑drawn visuals and a soundtrack polished by Yasunori Mitsuda’s Procyon Studio, while the actual compositions come from Yoko Shimomura, Akari Kaida, Yoshino Aoki, and Shunsuke Tsuchiya. The game’s “Engagement” system lets witches power up with unique skills, and the refined touch controls make grid‑based combat feel smooth on the DS. Multiplayer modes add a fun extra layer for rivals or friends.
Pre‑order copies tossed in a bonus music CD and the "Luminous Art" book, giving collectors a neat peek at both titles in the series. A manga tie‑in also launched alongside the launch, expanding the world beyond the console. Critics praised the visual style and battle depth, landing scores around 7‑8 / 10, though reviews were mixed overall. The title sold roughly 41,000 units in its first week in Japan, earning a respectable spot in the tactical RPG niche.
Storyline
Luminous Arc 2 unfolds in the kingdom of Carnava, where magic powers daily life and the Rev Magic Association keeps the peace. Sixteen years earlier, Mattias, leader of the Association, used the Demon Blade to seal the Beast Fiends but was trapped by elemental witches. New Fiends now surge, stretching the kingdom’s forces thin, while rogue witch Fatima, master of Shadow Frost magic, sparks a fresh conflict. In response, the crown launches a secret project that creates the Runic Engine.
When the Runic Engine activates, trainee knight Roland is unintentionally infused with its power and thrust into battle against the Beast Fiends, the imprisoned Mattias, and Fatima. He soon discovers the Association’s cover‑up: Mattias turned dark to try saving the world, not destroying it. The Fiend king Bharva is revealed as the hidden puppeteer behind the chaos. Determined, Roland allies with Fatima to confront Mage Queen Elicia, the creator of the Fiends.
The game lets players pursue a romance with either Fatima or Althea, and those dialogue choices before the final battle shape the ending. Depending on the chosen path, the conclusion varies, offering multiple resolutions to Carnava’s magical crisis.
