Summary
LostMagic lets you become a wizard who fights entirely with the DS stylus, tracing runes on the touch screen to summon spells. The more accurate your drawing, the more powerful the attack, and you can blend runes for elemental twists –‑ from simple Fire‑Water combos to three‑rune fusions that unleash icy explosions. Across the game’s 396 spells, six elements (fire, water, earth, light, dark, wind) mix in countless ways, letting you tailor your arsenal on the fly.
Capturing monsters is another core thrill; there are 62 different creatures to recruit, each leveling up to 50 and gaining stats that can be boosted with spells or equip items. Commanding them works like a mini‑RTS: tap a single unit or a whole squad and watch them autonomously clash with enemies using the same AI the game gives its foes.
Multiplayer rounds out the experience. In both “Free Duels” (preset setups) and full‑story duels you can pit your monster army against friends locally or online via Nintendo Wi‑Fi. Early on, clans sprang up in the Wi‑Fi lobby, though interest faded as the game’s niche appeal showed its limits.
Critics were mixed – Metacritic shows average scores, Famitsu gave a respectable 30/40, while GamePro praised the ambition but criticized the execution, noting that the innovative magic system often felt frustrating.
Storyline
LostMagic follows Isaac, a young mage who inherits the Wand of Light from his father Russell. The Wand of Light is one of seven legendary wands that let its bearer cast spells and capture monsters. After his parents vanished when he was a child, Isaac was taken in by a forest witch who taught him the fundamentals of magic. Armed with his new abilities, he sets out to master the other wands and uncover the mystery behind his family's disappearance.
