Summary

LEGO Legends of Chima: Laval's Journey (often just called Laval's Journey) drops you into a sandbox‑style, platform‑heavy adventure on the DS. You start with Laval racing against the scheming Cragger to unlock the secret of the legendary triple‑Chi armour, a power that could tip the balance of Chima. The game pushes you through fifteen distinct zones – from the Lion Temple and Eagle Spire to Gorilla Forrest, Rhino Quarry and Croc Swamp – letting you leap, swing, fly and fight using each character’s unique Chi abilities. While Laval leads the way, the roster swells to over sixty playable Chima tribes, including lions, eagles, gorillas, wolves, rhinoceri, crocodiles, bears, ravens and even nomads like Skinnet the skunk and Furtivo the fox. Despite its ambitious character variety, the DS version was met with overwhelming dislike on Metacritic, a stark contrast to its 3DS and Vita siblings released a few months earlier.

Storyline

The story of LEGO Legends of Chima: Laval's Journey opens with a jousting tournament to decide which tribe will claim the Golden Chi orb. Laval faces Cragger, who wins with an elongated lance, prompting Laval to accuse him of cheating. After the match, a bright light appears atop Spiral Mountain; Laval climbs it and discovers Cragger operating a machine that contains the Golden Chi orb and many ordinary Chi orbs, threatening to overload the Chi balance. Though Laval defeats Cragger, the machine activates, and Cragger boasts of gaining "triple Chi power" before fleeing.

Laval reports to his father Lagravis, but learns the eagle and gorilla tribes are under attack by the wolf and raven tribes. He rescues captured allies, including Eris and Gorzan, while each aggressor steals a piece of the legendary Triple‑Chi Armour. Cragger then assaults the Lion Temple, kidnaps Lagravis, and forces Laval and his friends—among them Worriz, who seeks revenge—to chase clues across rhino and crocodile territories. The group eventually confronts Cragger again, learns the Armour’s true power activates at Spiral Mountain’s peak, and battles both Cragger and his sister Crooler.

At the mountain’s summit, guarded by the wolf tribe, Worriz loses control under the Armour’s influence and the full moon. Laval and his companions defeat Cragger, and Eris recites the legend that the Armour must be used when Chi is unbalanced. Lagravis dons the Armour, restoring Chi balance and healing the land, even as Crooler re‑infects Cragger with her persuader plant before the heroes escape.
