Summary
LEGO Legends of Chima: Laval's Journey drops onto the Nintendo DS as a sandbox‑style, platform‑focused adventure. Players start controlling Laval but quickly unlock more than sixty unique characters spanning every Chima tribe—lions, eagles, gorillas, wolves, rhinoceri, crocodiles, bears, ravens and even nomadic skunks and foxes. Each hero brings distinct chi‑infused skills that let you leap, swing, fly and fight across fifteen varied levels, from Lion Temple to Eagle Spire, Gorilla Forest and Croc Swamp. The game mirrors the broader 2013 release window, arriving a few months after the 3DS and Vita versions. Despite its ambitious roster and level design, the DS iteration earned “overwhelming dislike” on Metacritic, reflecting mixed reception among North American players.
Storyline
In LEGO Legends of Chima: Laval's Journey, the story begins at a jousting tournament to decide which tribe will claim the Golden Chi orb. Laval loses to Cragger, who cheats with an elongated lance, and then spots a bright light from Spiral Mountain. Climbing the peak, Laval finds Cragger operating a machine that holds the Golden Chi orb and many ordinary Chi orbs, a device that could overload the Chi balance. After defeating Cragger, the machine activates and Cragger escapes, boasting of soon gaining triple‑Chi power.
Laval reports to his father Lagravis, only to learn the Eagle and Gorilla tribes are under attack by the Wolf and Raven tribes. He battles through each land, rescuing friends like Eris and Gorzan, while the attackers steal pieces of the legendary Triple‑Chi Armour. Cragger then assaults the Lion Temple, kidnaps Lagravis, and forces Laval, Worriz and others to chase clues across Rhino and Crocodile territories. In Crocodile land Cragger breaks free of his sister Crooler’s control and joins the fight to free Lagravis, while Worriz claims the full armour, learning its power activates atop Spiral Mountain.
The heroes ascend Spiral Mountain, defeat Cragger, and Lagravis uses the armour to restore Chi balance, ending the conflict.
