Summary
Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4 lets you swing through Hogwarts, Diagon Alley, the Forbidden Forest and Hogsmeade as Harry, Ron, Hermione and over a hundred other mini‑figures. Spells are chosen on a convenient wheel and unlocked as you progress, while potions and the Polyjuice Potion let you change into any character you’ve collected. The game adds “Student in Peril” side quests, red‑brick bonuses (one turns ghost studs into a 1,000‑stud windfall) and a level‑builder mode that mirrors the creator in the Indiana Jones sequel. For DS players, the sprawling hub network is trimmed to a single Room of Requirement, boss fights and spellcasting are simplified, and the touchscreen handles spell gestures. Unlike earlier Lego titles, the DS version includes full text dialogue. Two‑player split‑screen remains, letting friends hunt the hidden portraits and extra characters across Hogwarts’ ever‑expanding sections while trading studs and treasures.
Storyline
LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1‑4 follows the Lego Harry Potter toy line and retells the events of the first four books and their film adaptations – Philosopher’s Stone, Chamber of Secrets, Prisoner of Azkaban and Goblet of Fire. The plot mirrors the movies closely, but minor tweaks keep the two‑player mode seamless. For instance, during the first task of the Triwizard Tournament Hermione accidentally tags along with Harry, a departure from both book and film where Harry faces the dragon alone. The final showdown with Voldemort also differs: Cedric Diggory appears to aid the heroes and is killed while trying to escape, rather than dying earlier as in the original story. These adjustments preserve the core narrative while adding playful Lego‑style moments.
