Summary

Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole lands on the Nintendo DS as a companion adventure to the big‑screen release, letting you raise a personal Guardian owl and slip into a secret mission to protect the kingdom. Before you take off you choose one of four species—barn owl, spotted owl, great gray owl, or great horned owl—each offering its own strengths and drawbacks.
The core of the game is fast‑paced airborne combat; you lock on to enemy owls or structures, swoop in, and slash with claws while stringing together combos. Occasionally you’ll race through tight gates under a timer or face off against epic bosses that test every trick you’ve learned. Winifred Phillips’ original score threads through the skyward battles, highlighted by the award‑winning "With Hearts Sublime". Despite its ambitious concept, critics were harsh, and the DS version sits at a modest 33/100 on Metacritic.

Storyline

Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole on DS follows the movie’s plot and focuses on Shard, an owlet rescued after his parents are killed by Hagsfiends. The Guardian chw brings him to the Great Ga'Hoole Tree, where he earns his name from an eggshell on his feathers.

Flashbacks reveal the Glauxian Monks’ worship of Glaux and the false betrayal of the monk Grettir, whose son becomes Shard. These memories drive Shard to prove his family’s honor.

Shard trains with Parzival and later teams with the rescued eagle Streak. The trio carries out covert missions—freeing captive owlets, destroying bat sanctuaries, and uncovering the Pure Ones’ plan to harvest flecks.

In the Forest of Tyto they aid resistance fighters, light torches through a storm, and defeat Hagsfiends at the Glauxian Retreat, learning Grettir was framed. Ezylryb rewards Shard with his father’s battle claws.

The final showdown reveals Allomere as the true traitor; Shard disables the Pure Ones’ fleck tower, destroys the Stone Palace furnace, and kills Allomere in a collapsing cavern. Though scarred, Shard vows to protect the Guardians’ values of truth and fellowship.
