Summary
Kabu Trader Shun turns the Nintendo DS into a miniature Wall Street where you guide Shun Aiba, a rookie broker trying to reclaim his father’s legacy. The core loop has you buying and selling stocks while watching daily graphs that stretch over a 20‑day window, with red‑flashing alerts signalling market‑moving news. Between trades you explore city hotspots, meet quirky characters, and unlock special abilities—Trading Arts—that let you sabotage a rival’s spirit meter or give yourself a boost.
Versus mode pits two traders against each other in timed duels or profit‑race challenges; whenever a spirit gauge dips, a stylus‑driven clearing mini‑game forces you to wipe away on‑screen debris before you can trade again. Director Yukio Ando infused his own market experience, while the manga‑styled visuals earned the game an occasional comparison to Ace Attorney. Though it remained Japan‑only, the blend of stock simulation and adventure still feels oddly fresh.
Storyline
Kabu Trader Shun puts you in the shoes of 18‑year‑old Shun Aiba, a fresh‑faced trader eager to step into the lucrative world of stocks and live up to his father’s reputation. Shun’s dad, Ippei, was a legendary trader who suffered a crushing loss in a trading battle, went bankrupt and vanished five years earlier, leaving a mystery that haunts the market. Determined to uncover the truth and rebuild his family’s name, Shun enlists the guidance of Toru Narasaki, his father’s former partner and disciple, who agrees to teach him every trick of the trade. Along the way, Shun is joined by Hanako Kirikagura, Toru’s pupil and the daughter of a powerful securities‑firm family, adding both rivalry and support as they navigate the high‑stakes world of Japanese finance.
