Summary

Inuyasha: Secret of the Divine Jewel drops onto the Nintendo DS as a turn‑based RPG that leans into the classic cast – Inuyasha, Kagome, Miroku, Sango and Shippo – while sprinkling in a fresh Cover Fellow System that lets you coordinate their abilities in battle. Each encounter follows the traditional sequence of attacking, guarding, using items or even escaping, and characters earn experience to level up, sharpening their powers as you trek across the world map.

The game launched in North America on January 23, 2007, riding on the popularity of Rumiko Takahashi’s anime. Critics weren’t kind; Metacritic recorded generally unfavorable reviews and IGN awarded a 4/10, noting an odd emphasis on a newcomer, Janis, though they did commend the visual presentation and faithful story flavor. If you enjoy a nostalgia‑driven adventure that lets the familiar crew work together against demons like Sara and Lord Gorai, the title offers that experience despite its mixed reception.

Storyline

Inuyasha: Secret of the Divine Jewel follows Janis, a transfer student from the United States who befriends Kagome during her last year of middle school. After Kagome disappears, Janis investigates the Higurashi Shrine, is attacked by a demon from the Bone‑Eater’s Well, and is rescued by the masked monk Sen. He sends her through the well to the Sengoku era, where she reunites with Inuyasha, Miroku, Sango and Shippō. Touching a fragment of the Shikon Jewel fuses the shard into Janis’ body, awakening the divine Kamui power she inherited as the daughter of the god Datara. The group must return the Kamuitama to Datara so the fragment can be removed and Janis can escape the demons that now hunt her. Along the way they confront Lord Gorai, a half‑cat demon who once wielded the Demon Mask, and Naraku, who covets Janis’ newfound power.
