Summary

Inazuma Eleven follows Mark Evans, a talented young goalkeeper whose school lacks a proper soccer club. When mysterious forward Axel Blaze arrives, Mark sets out to assemble a team, hunting down reluctant classmates and strangers alike. The game boasts nearly 1,000 unique players to recruit, though only a hundred can march onto the pitch at once. Each character brings distinct stats—Kick, Body, Control, Guard, Speed, Stamina, and Guts—plus an elemental affiliation (Wood, Air, Earth, Fire) that creates a rock‑paper‑scissors dynamic during battles.

Control is handled entirely with the DS stylus, letting you move, pass, and trigger command duels when you collide with an opponent. Victories award experience, prestige, and friendship points, letting you level up, purchase gear, and unlock formation cards. Reviewers praised the charming graphics, deep RPG mechanics and the inventive combat system, earning scores in the high 80s from several European outlets. The title sparked a franchise of sequels, manga, and an anime, cementing its place as a unique hybrid of sports and role‑playing gaming.

Storyline

In the Nintendo DS title Inazuma Eleven, Mark Evans is a talented goalkeeper and the grandson of legendary keeper David Evans. He captains Raimon Jr. High’s struggling team and dreams of entering the Football Frontier tournament. When the mysterious forward Axel Blaze transfers to the school, he initially refuses to join but later helps Raimon defeat the powerful Royal Academy, led by captain Jude Sharp and coach Ray Dark.

The victory earns Raimon a spot in the Football Frontier, but Dark repeatedly tries to sabotage them—first by draining the bus’s brake fluid, then by attempting to crush the team with girders. Detective Gregory Smith thwarts Dark’s plans and arrests him. At the national stage, the team lacks a coach until they locate Seymour Hillman, a former member of the original Inazuma Eleven whose run ended after a tragic bus crash.

Hillman becomes coach, training the squad with the elderly Inazuma Eleven veterans. Jude later joins after Royal is defeated by Zeus Junior High, a team secretly led by Dark and fueled by a drug‑spiked "ambrosia."

Nelly, the school counsellor’s daughter, swaps the drug‑laden drinks for water, neutralizing Zeus’s advantage and allowing Raimon to claim the Football Frontier championship.
