Summary

Ace Attorney Investigations 2 (officially Gyakuten Kenji 2) drops you back into Miles Edgeworth’s world on the Nintendo DS, continuing the series as its sixth entry.

The game uses a two‑phase structure: investigation scenes where you hunt for evidence, converse with witnesses, and piece together Edgeworth’s “thoughts,” and rebuttal moments where those clues clash with testimony. New tools like “Little Thief” let you construct holographic crime‑scene recreations and flip between two timelines, while the “Mind Chess” mini‑game forces timed, tactical dialogue when a character refuses to talk, complete with a health meter for missteps.

Development rolled out quickly for the series’ tenth anniversary, using the original investigation engine as a foundation; the team even finalized direction during a five‑day retreat at Capcom Manor. The game showcases upgraded sprites, richer backgrounds, a score by Noriyuki Iwadare, and event art by Takuro Fuse and Tatsuro Iwamoto.

Several retail variations appeared, from a plain edition to collector’s packs that bundled an orchestral CD, a Tokyo Game Show DVD, a manga booklet, and even a Miles Edgeworth figurine, with a demo broadcast via Wii and Nintendo‑Zone kiosks.

Storyline

Ace Attorney Investigations 2, known in Japan as Gyakuten Kenji 2, follows prosecutor Miles Edgeworth, detective Dick Gumshoe and teenage thief Kay Faraday as they investigate five linked cases. The story takes place a week after the first investigation and introduces Judge Verity Gavèlle, head of a committee that seeks to remove “weak” prosecutors.

The first case deals with an attempted assassination of President Di‑Jun Wang. Edgeworth discovers the president staged the attack to revive his popularity and that head guard Bastian Rook was killed by his deputy Bronco Knight, who is later murdered in prison by warden Fifi Laguarde. A second case sees chef Carmelo Gusto nearly killed in Judy Bound’s art gallery; a flashback reveals that Edgeworth’s father Gregory and Eddie Fender once defended Bound’s partner Samson Tangaroa in the DL‑6 incident, and that Gusto finally confesses to murdering rival chef Artie Frost.

The last case has an amnesic Kay accused of killing defense attorney Rosie Ringer. Edgeworth surrenders his badge, uncovers an illegal auction run by Excelsius Winner—head of Gavèlle’s committee and Eustace’s father—and exposes his burn scar as the murder clue. The conspiracy involving a body‑double president, Laguarde and Excelsius is unraveled, and Edgeworth regains his prosecutor’s badge.
