Summary
Shiren the Wanderer 4: The Eye of God and the Devil’s Navel, the DS entry of the Mystery Dungeon franchise, builds on its roguelike roots with fresh twists. The game generates each dungeon anew, connecting cramped rooms with narrow hallways littered with traps. A day‑and‑night cycle makes twilight dangerous: monsters grow stronger and corridors grow more unforgiving, while a unique hide‑behind‑door mechanic lets you strike through doors that foes can’t cross. Developed by Chunsoft and published by Spike, it debuted in Japan on February 25, 2010, landing as the seventh‑best‑selling title of its launch week with roughly 41 thousand copies sold. Despite never leaving Japan, its strategic depth and atmospheric design still earn it a cult following among western roguelike fans.
Storyline
In Shiren the Wanderer 4, Shiren and his chatty weasel companion Koppa are shipwrecked on a mysterious island. The locals mistake them for monsters and bind them to a stake, but the heroine Kamina intervenes and rescues them. Grateful yet uneasy, Kamina soon finds herself captured by a jaguar priest who accuses her of being a demon. To clear her name, the priest tasks Shiren with retrieving the legendary Jaguar's Eye. The quest becomes a race against time, as Shiren must prove Kamina’s innocence and uncover the island’s hidden secrets.
