Summary
The hunt for the Grail of Kings launches you into the Grand Duchy of High Lagaard, where rumors speak of a floating palace atop a sky‑bound tree. Your adventure climbs this massive magical tree floor by floor, each level a self‑contained dungeon that you must revisit for supplies.
Play in first‑person, moving one step at a time with the stylus while every action turns the clock. Enemies appear turn‑based; powerful FOEs can be spotted on the map, though they respawn every three days. Since there’s no auto‑map, you’re forced to chart every corridor yourself, using new symbols and warp points to escape and save.
You assemble a party from twelve distinct classes, keeping up to thirty heroes on standby at the guild hall and swapping members in town with L/R buttons. The director, Shigeo Komori, chased an old‑school vibe, and Yuzo Koshiro provided a synth‑rich soundtrack that started on a PC‑88 before being ported to the DS.
Storyline
Etrian Odyssey II: Heroes of Lagaard drops players into the Grand Duchy of High Lagaard, where a sudden crisis has revived interest in a floating castle that hovers high above the clouds. The castle can only be reached by navigating the Yggdrasil Labyrinth, a sprawling forested maze made up of many levels.
To claim the mythical Grail of Kings said to rest within the palace, the Duke of High Lagaard is recruiting adventurers to explore the labyrinth. You assume the role of the guild leader, guiding your party through the maze toward the floating stronghold.
