Summary
I dove into Drone Tactics and was instantly struck by its turn‑based strategy feel on the DS. You command giant robot insects called Drones, each with a distinct set of abilities that shape the way battles unfold. The sheer depth of customization is addictive – over a hundred weapons and upgrades let you sculpt the perfect squad for any mission.
The campaign packs dozens of operations across more than seventy hand‑crafted maps, and the local multiplayer adds a frantic, head‑to‑head layer that keeps the replay value high. Even when the story leans toward a younger audience, the mechanics stay satisfying and challenging for any tactical fan.
Critics seemed to agree: reviewers lauded the gameplay’s tightness and highlighted the graphics as some of the best ever seen on the Nintendo DS, cementing Drone Tactics as a memorable hidden gem.
Storyline
Drone Tactics (often just called Drone Tactics on the DS) centers on a surprisingly whimsical sci‑fi plot. Two school kids, Yamato and Tsubasa, stumble upon a butterfly named Y‑Ite and a rhino beetle called K‑Buto. The insects hail from the parallel world of Cimexus, where a menace known as the Black Swarm threatens everything. Desperate for allies, the duo asks the children for help, and Yamato and Tsubasa agree to travel to Cimexus. Together they pilot drones and battle the Black Swarm, hoping to save the insect‑filled realm from destruction.
