Summary
Dragon Ball Z: Attack of the Saiyans lets you step into the Saiyan Saga right after the World Tournament, following Goku’s triumphant defeat of Piccolo. I guide Goku across a surprisingly varied DS world—from dense jungles to a snow‑capped mountain—while hunting side‑quests and hidden items that never appeared in the anime or manga. The game feels fresh thanks to its blend of brand‑new gameplay twists and classic turn‑based combat.
Navigation is split into three distinct modes. A world map is unlocked from the start, giving instant access to every region, while area maps on the top screen let you explore fields, forests, caves and towns; the bottom touch screen shows equipment from Capsule Corp’s Dyno‑Caps, which you can buy, receive or discover in treasure chests. Obstacles block your path, and you’ll need increasingly powerful ki blasts to clear rocks, brush and tougher barriers.
Battles unfold on a separate screen where up to three party members fight a monster or boss. Though the touch screen displays commands, the game leans on the control pad, keeping the stylus almost unused. Winning grants Ability Points to upgrade skills, and a filling Rage Gage fuels ultimate attacks or, when multiple gauges are full, a tag‑team Sparking Combo. Active Guard lets you block at the perfect moment, adding a tactical layer to each encounter.
Storyline
Dragon Ball Z: Attack of the Saiyans for the Nintendo DS follows the saga from the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai all the way through the climax of the Saiyan arc in the original manga. The game strings together the major battles and plot twists that define the early Dragon Ball Z storyline, letting players experience the rise of the Saiyan threat firsthand. In addition to the main plot, the title offers several alternate storylines that flesh out the Dragon Ball universe, including side quests like Krillin’s return home that give extra context to familiar events. These optional paths let fans explore “what‑if” moments without altering the core narrative. Six iconic heroes are available to control: Goku, Gohan, Piccolo, Krillin, Tien and Yamcha, each bringing their own moves and abilities to the handheld adventure.
