Summary
Donkey Kong: Jungle Climber feels like a love letter to the classic Donkey Kong Country look, but it lives on the DS where the two screens become one towering stage. The game continues the swing‑and‑climb formula from King of Swing, letting you hold L and R to launch DK and then flick between them to grab or release the pegs scattered throughout each level. When only one peg is held, DK spins, letting you ladder up the vertical shafts that stretch across both displays. Beyond the core puzzles, Paon added fresh moves, quirky items and a handful of minigames that keep the challenge fresh. The multiplayer mode supports up to four friends, and the title even survived a Virtual Console re‑release on Wii U in 2015, giving a new generation a chance to climb the tall, peg‑filled worlds.
Storyline
Donkey Kong, Diddy and Cranky take a vacation on Sun Sun Beach when a massive banana floats atop a mountain. At the summit they meet Xananab, a banana‑shaped alien, and discover King K. Rool has stolen five Crystal Bananas. DK agrees to help Xananab retrieve them, kicking off the adventure in DK: Jungle Climber.
The heroes travel through Ghost Island, Lost Island and Chill ’n’ Char Island. Each island ends with a mutated Kremling boss inside a huge machine, and defeating the boss returns a Crystal Banana.
After Chill ’n’ Char, K. Rool escapes on the upgraded King Kruizer IV. Using a Booster Barrel, DK infiltrates the cruiser, defeats the final Kremling and claims the last Crystal Banana. K. Rool flees through a wormhole to his home planet, Planet Plataen, where he mutates into a giant. DK defeats him, Xananab crowns the trio as local celebrities, and they return home, humorously tying K. Rool to the back of the banana spaceship.
