Summary
The Nintendo DS version of Crash of the Titans turns the series into a hybrid platform‑beat ’em‑up that leans heavily on the handheld’s touchscreen and microphone. You guide Crash from a third‑person view, moving in eight directions while flicking Aku Aku’s icon to seize stunned Titans, then using the stylus to unleash each creature’s special attack or even chain‑jack onto another. Mojo orbs drop from enemies, cracked crates and successful jacks, feeding a kiosk where you can upgrade Crash’s moves. Each island hides a pachinko board that rewards health boosts, temporary invincibility, explosions or even gallery art, while hidden Tiki Masks and a Gem await the most thorough explorers. At certain points you swap to Nina, Cortex’s niece, whose ray‑gun is powered by a touchscreen crank, adding a quick‑draw shooting segment. Plugging in the Game Boy Advance version unlocks bonus Mojo, and the game features a full voice cast including Jess Harnell and Nolan North, giving the handheld title a surprisingly cinematic feel.
Storyline
Crash of the Titans (often just called Crash Titans) begins with Doctor Neo Cortex tapping the ancient power of Mojo. He uses captured Tiki Masks—one of which holds the protective spirit Aku Aku—to turn the peaceful wildlife of the Wumpa Islands into massive Titans. Crash confronts Cortex, frees Aku Aku, and watches his foe flee as the island’s creatures roar under the new power.
With Aku Aku’s guidance, Crash travels the archipelago gathering Mojo while Cortex orders his henchmen Doctor N. Gin and Tiny Tiger to construct and stockpile fuel for a gigantic "Cortexbot". Nina, Cortex’s niece, continues mutating the local fauna, but growing dissatisfied she schemes to seize control, recruiting the defeated N. Gin and Tiny Tiger to her cause. Even Dingodile attempts to stop Crash, only to fail.
Nina eventually confronts Cortex, discovering the Cortexbot was built solely for a dance. Crash and Nina chase the fleeing Cortex into the bot, where he pretends to surrender. If the player hasn’t collected all items, Crash deflects Nina’s mutating raygun, turning her into an infant; Cortex then tries to finish Crash but is beaten and the bot destroyed. With a full 100 % run, Nina instead shoots Crash, shrinking him, defeats Cortex herself, and orders the bot’s repair to annihilate the Wumpa Islands.
