Summary

Bleach: The 3rd Phantom flips the series onto a turn‑based tactical board, reminding me of Final Fantasy Tactics and Fire Emblem. Battles play out on an isometric grid, and when a soul reaper strikes the view shifts to a side‑profile where familiar moves like Getsuga Tenshō and Kido appear. If two teammates flank the same enemy they can chain a tag‑team attack that deals a big bonus damage punch.

Between combat rounds the game slides into a ‘Free Time’ board where I move the companion Kon using a pool of Action Points. Each space is an event panel that can boost stats, hand out items, or raise an affiliation with the featured character. Choosing the right dialogue on heart‑marked panels even convinces characters like Kira or Hisagi to join my squad, while hidden hot‑spring tiles deliver fan‑service moments.

The roster swells to around sixty Shinigami, Visoreds, Arrancars and original faces such as twins Matsuri and Fujimaru Kudo. Experience points earned in fights raise stats and unlock new abilities, letting me tailor each recruit’s power set. The game even brings in foes from the DiamondDust Rebellion film for added variety.

Ikimono‑gakari provides the theme ‘Remaining Wind,’ which sets a surprisingly mellow tone for a tactical title. Critics were split: Metacritic hovers at 59 / 100 and Famitsu scores it 28 / 40, calling the formula mixed but appealing to die‑hard fans.

Storyline

Bleach: The 3rd Phantom features a spin‑off storyline written by Tite Kubo himself, and it changes depending on whether you pick the male or female lead. Twins Matsuri Kudo and Fujimaru Kudo serve in the 5th Division under their adoptive father Seigen Suzunami, fend off the Arrancar Arturo Plateado, and are frozen in time after the final clash.

When they awaken in the present day, the chosen sibling meets Ichigo Kurosaki, a mysterious girl named Shiyo, and many familiar faces such as Rukia, Renji, Hitsugaya and Soifon. They learn the true motives of former Vice‑Captain Aizen Sōsuke and discover that friends and family they once knew have risen to senior ranks, highlighting the tragedy of the lost years.

The twins eventually uncover Seigen’s alliance with Aizen, confront him as a massive Hollow‑like monster, and launch an expedition toward Hueco Mundo. After a bizarre interdimensional battle, Seigen briefly returns to his human form before fading away with Konoka and Shiyo. In the ending, Fujimaru and Matsuri decline offers to rejoin the Gotei 13 and instead stay in the living world to guard the reincarnated souls.
