Summary
Battles of Prince of Persia was the franchise’s first arrival on the Nintendo DS, slotting its story neatly between The Sands of Time and The Two Thrones. The game swaps platform‑hopping action for a turn‑based tactics layout that feels almost like a tabletop wargame, where every move is mediated through a hand of collectible cards. Each card shows a picture and a number; the picture triggers a magical effect, while the number dictates how many orders you can issue during that hour of battle. I love how the hour‑by‑hour structure forces you to balance aggressive pushes with careful passes, especially with zone‑of‑control rules that block you from slipping right through enemy lines and the directional‑facing bonuses for striking foes from behind. The roster offers nine playable characters, 27 distinct units spread across three factions, and the quirky multiplayer mode lets a single cartridge be passed around, turning a friendly get‑together into an instant‑strategic showdown.
Storyline
Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands takes place between the events of Sands of Time and Warrior Within. The Prince travels across Persia, India and the fictional realm of Aresura, where each kingdom dispatches three generals to wage war. While searching for a way to escape the Dahaka—an incarnation of fate that hunts him for cheating death—he unintentionally sparks a conflict between Persia and India. Throughout the adventure he battles the Deavas, a race of demons released from a cursed box, and confronts Kalim, the Indian prince and brother of his lost love Farah. The relentless battles force the Prince to grow darker and more cynical, foreshadowing the hardened hero seen in Warrior Within.
