Summary

ASH: Archaic Sealed Heat blends a grid‑based tactical field with classic turn‑based battles, letting you steer a three‑character squad across a stylus‑driven DS interface. The top screen shows cutscenes and your party, while the bottom screen handles movement, enemy placement and menu commands, creating a clear split between strategy and action. Each turn you spend Action Points to move or attack, then the battle shifts to CGI‑rendered combat where you choose from attacks, magic, Arts, EX Arts or defensive stances.

Permadeath is a core tension: if a non‑leader falls, that unit is gone for the rest of the playthrough, and losing the queen Aisya forces a restart from an earlier save. The game offers a roster of generic classes—Long Sword, Black and White Magic, Butler, Ittemer, Steeler, and Monster Magic—each with distinct roles and permanent loss risk. Between chapters you can outfit, upgrade, or replace units, and a New Game Plus lets you carry over money for a fresh run.

Designed by Hironobu Sakaguchi and built on a two‑gigabit cartridge, the title showcases detailed CGI cutscenes from Robot Inc., Shirogumi and Ufotable, while Basiscape’s soundtrack adds a cinematic flair to every tactical encounter.

Storyline

ASH: Archaic Sealed Heat opens on the coronation day of Princess Aisya in the medieval‑styled kingdom of Millinear (sometimes called Milinia). As she lifts her hereditary bracelet, a massive flaming serpent descends, turning the palace and its subjects into ash. Miraculously, a handful of survivors—including the regent Bullnequ—reappear as ash‑bound soldiers, and Aisya discovers she can revive the dead in ash form.

Determined to uncover the source of the disaster, Aisya sets out across a world split among three kingdoms: Millinear, Sumnelthia and Aceshin. The ancient magical flame, long sealed, has been released as Salamanders and a greater Flame Serpent that ravage the lands. Along the way she gathers allies: Dan, a Sumnelthian soldier; Emu of the reclusive Forest People; the future‑born mechanic Bamyganant; mercenary swordsman Jeekwawen; and the sentient Mechanic Cootrolan, rescued from hostile machines.

The party learns that the war‑torn kingdoms have been feeding the flame’s energy, and that the mechanical soldiers—called Mechanics—originated from a future where humanity and machines are locked in a dying world. Confrontations with the Sumnelthian king, a colossal Fire Dragon, and betrayals by Bamyganant and the king drive the group toward a final showdown.

In the climax, Aisya defeats Bamyganant with Cootrolan’s sacrifice, restores the balance of black and white energy, and the Fire Dragon grants her a wish. She asks for a future, prompting the dragon to resurrect those turned to ash, including Bullnequ, and to erase the mechanized future, leaving the world healed.
