Summary
Anno: Create a New World – the title I remember from the DS shelf – is the Anno series’ handheld spin‑off, released abroad as Dawn of Discovery. It drops the series’ hallmark city‑building onto a real‑time strategy canvas that works perfectly with the Nintendo DS’s dual screens. Keen Games crafted a compact but deep experience, letting you design thriving colonial towns while juggling trade routes and resource chains, all under Ubisoft’s publishing polish. What feels fresh is how the game condenses the grand‑scale economy of the PC franchise into quick, on‑the‑go sessions without sacrificing the satisfying loop of expansion and optimisation. It’s a charming glimpse of Anno’s ambition in a portable format.
Storyline
Anno: Create A New World is set in the year 1404, when King George’s kingdom is ravaged by drought and famine. To ease the suffering, he dispatches his two sons, William and Edward, on expeditions to find new fertile lands. The brothers differ sharply: Edward favors forceful conquest, while William prefers peaceful exploration.
William travels south and encounters an Oriental civilization, quickly earning the locals’ trust. In exchange, they share advanced technologies and secret knowledge that could revitalize George’s realm. Their harmony is shattered when the Sultan is kidnapped and his militant sister seizes power, cutting diplomatic ties and threatening war.
With resources still scarce, King George orders both sons to return abroad and secure whatever goods they can, preparing the kingdom for the looming conflict.
