Summary
Advance Wars: Dual Strike (often just Dual Strike) brings turn‑based strategy to DS with two screens that let you command armies on separate fronts at once. It lets two commanding officers cooperate, using the Tag Power to chain their super abilities for a double‑turn effect. The CO roster reaches 27, with nine newcomers and each CO gaining experience and customizable skills.
The Megatank, Piperunner, Oozium on land, Black Boat and aircraft carrier on sea, stealth fighter and Black Bomb in the air, plus terrain features like Com Tower and Black Crystals. Weather effects such as Sandstorm and Rain‑induced fog add tactical depth.
Besides the classic Campaign, Dual Strike adds Survival (resource‑scarce war of attrition) and Combat, a real‑time shooter using the touchpad. Multiplayer supports Versus (hot‑seat) and Link, allowing up to eight players and map sharing via the editor. Critics praised it as the benchmark for handheld strategy, earning IGN’s Editor’s Choice, GameSpot awards, and universal acclaim for its deep yet accessible gameplay.
Storyline
Advance Wars: Dual Strike continues the saga from the first two entries, moving the conflict to the newly introduced Omega Land. After a recent defeat, the Black Hole Army resurfaces under a mysterious new commander, Von Bolt, who seeks eternal life by siphoning the planet’s energy with massive Black Obelisks. He also engineers a slime‑based bio‑weapon called Oozium 238 to ravage the countryside.
The Allied Nations—Orange Star, Blue Moon, Yellow Comet and Green Earth—respond with fresh faces. Orange Star’s Jake and his advisor Rachel lead the charge, supported by Sasha, Grimm and Javier from the other factions. Former Black Hole COs Hawke and Lash, after being rescued from Von Bolt’s betrayal, provide crucial intel on the Obelisks and the Oozium menace.
Together the COs push the enemy back, battling across the Crimson Sea and destroying the final Black Obelisk. The climax pits the Allies against Von Bolt and a giant creature, the Grand Bolt, before Jake (or Hawke, depending on the player’s choice) shatters Von Bolt’s life‑support chair. Hawke seizes the chair, reviving Omega Land and leaving Von Bolt’s fate ambiguous.
