Summary

Xena: Warrior Princess: The Talisman of Fate lets you pick from ten iconic heroes and villains, each armed with a signature weapon and a handful of special moves – from Xena’s whirling chakram to Callisto’s fire blast. The game’s roster mode lets you assemble a team of up to five fighters and throw them into free‑for‑all brawls, while the single‑player quest pits you against the rest of the cast in a random‑order gauntlet.

The 3D arenas are lifted straight from the TV series, with crisp textures, animated backdrops and a camera that stays surprisingly steady for an N64 fighter. Reviewers praised the detailed polygonal models and smooth framerate, noting that the characters look right on par with their on‑screen counterparts despite the lack of original voice talent.

After battling through the roster, Xena appears as a sub‑boss before the final showdown with Despair, an original villain who serves as Dahak’s champion. Defeating him triggers a character‑specific ending that varies with the chosen difficulty.

Critics were split: the graphics, four‑player mode and faithful environments earned high marks, while the limited move sets, occasional stiff animation, collision glitches and occasional audio drop‑outs kept the game from reaching true depth. Nonetheless, fans of the series found the multiplayer experience enough to make the title a memorable, if imperfect, entry in the N64 fighting lineup.
