Summary

WCW vs. nWo: World Tour (often just called World Tour) packs over 40 wrestlers onto the Nintendo 64, with more than half of them being real WCW and nWo stars like Hollywood Hogan, Sting, The Giant, Lex Luger, Ric Flair and The Outsiders. Each character can pull off 30‑40 moves, and the game’s signature grappling system forces every attack to start from a hold, letting you tap for a quick strike or hold for a powerful one. This mechanic, borrowed from Asmik/AKI’s puroresu roots, gave the title a tight, intuitive feel that set it apart from the clunkier WWF War Zone.

The mode roster is surprisingly deep: beyond the usual singles, tag team, handicap and battle‑royal matches, you’ll find a WCW‑vs‑nWo tournament, round‑robin and even Japanese‑style league challenges. Completing a promotion’s league unlocks a hidden champion—Diamond Dallas Page for WCW, Wrath for DOA, Glacier for IOU, or Randy Savage for nWo—while the ultimate "Whole World Wrestling" gauntlet pits you against a secret heavyweight or cruiserweight boss.

Multiplayer shines, especially in the chaotic four‑player battle royal where steel chairs, half‑tables, baseball bats and a barbed‑wire bat can be snatched from the crowd. Though the game lacks a create‑a‑wrestler mode or ring entrances, its impressive polygon graphics, massive move set and the ability to bleed (a nod to its Japanese counterpart) made it a fan favorite, earning it over a million copies sold and the inaugural Console Fighting Game of the Year award.
