Summary

WCW Nitro drops you into the high‑octane world of Monday Nitro, letting you step into the ring with more than 60 WCW and NWO superstars. Each wrestler comes packed with dozens of moves, from basic grapples to signature finishers, plus taunts that let you hype the crowd before a big splash. The game shuffles you through iconic venues like the Nitro arena, Starrcade and Halloween Havoc, and even hides a slew of secret arenas and "run‑in" characters that pop up when you least expect them. You can go solo in a one‑player tournament, team up for tag‑team action, or throw down in a chaotic battle‑royale style free‑for‑all. Unlockable content is generous: 48 extra wrestlers become available through tournament progress or cheat codes, ranging from real WCW personalities to quirky fictional faces and even THQ staff. Though the N64 version skips full‑motion video, it retains the thunderous Nitro theme music and a roster updated from the sequel Thunder, earning praise for its authentic atmosphere and becoming the second‑best‑selling console launch in the U.S., trailing only Resident Evil 2, and snagging a nomination for Console Fighting Game of the Year.
