Summary

Virtual Pro Wrestling 64, often shortened to VPW 64, is the Japanese counterpart to the American WCW vs. nWo: World Tour. While it carries the same WCW roster, the game also fills the roster with generic stand‑ins for stars from New Japan Pro‑Wrestling and All Japan Pro Wrestling, giving it a distinctly mixed‑culture feel. Over 78 wrestlers are available, and the title supports up to four players on the N64.

The developers tweaked several visual and gameplay details that set it apart. Hulk Hogan’s classic yellow tights stay, but his knee pads switch to black, and Chris Benoit appears in his Japanese gear rather than the Four Horsemen outfit. Diamond Dallas Page is unlocked from the start and trades his Diamond Cutter for a gut‑wrench spinning powerbomb as his front special, while other World Tour exclusives like Glacier never appear.

A unique post‑match scoring system rewards performance, and an in‑game editor lets you customize each wrestler’s attire—features that wouldn’t reach American players until WCW/nWo Revenge a year later.

Storyline

Virtual Pro Wrestling 64 (released internationally as WCW vs. nWo: World Tour) centers on the world‑leading promotion WCW assembling talent from across the globe to settle scores. The roster also faces the infamous nWo, headed by Hollywood Hogan, in a clash that defines the game’s storyline.
