Summary
Transformers: Beast Wars Transmetals throws you into a flat‑shaded 3D arena where every fighter cycles between beast, vehicle and robot forms, each with its own strengths. Robot mode dishes out the biggest punches but burns your energon gauge, beast mode swaps power for defensive stamina and a slow recharge, while vehicle mode dashes around with fast projectiles but offers scant protection. The game rewards juggling these modes, especially when you unleash the signature Ultra Blast that can turn a losing match on its head. Beyond the main arcade ladder, there’s a versus arena, a team battle mode, and a handful of mini‑games that keep the metal‑clashing fun going. A quirky Blockbuster‑only release in the U.S., the N64 version even lets a secret boss, Megatron X, pop up for a surprise showdown.
Storyline
Transformers: Beast Wars Transmetals takes place in an alternate take on the second season of the animated series, right after the Transmetals and Fuzors are introduced. The Maximals capture Predacon commander Megatron and, believing the Beast Wars are over, board an Autobot shuttle bound for Cybertron. While en route, the captive Megatron uses transwarp to send a warning to his past self, alerting him to the impending defeat. This temporal interference spawns a divergent timeline in which both Maximals and Predacons acquire powerful new Transmetal forms and resume their clash on prehistoric Earth. The Nintendo 64 version adds unique story endings for each playable character, detailing their actions after they defeat the opposing faction leader and hinting at how the rewritten future might unfold.
