Summary

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six on the Nintendo 64 feels like a condensed but still deadly tactical sandbox. The game forces you to brief each of the 12 missions, pick operatives from five specialist classes and outfit them with color‑coded gear before you even step into a room, making planning a core part of the fun. Saffire rewrote the PC classic for the N64 controller, trimming the campaign, cleaning up the HUD and keeping a solid 30‑fps frame‑rate that still looks impressive on the console.
I love the two‑player split‑screen co‑op, which lets a teammate run a separate squad while the other leads the action. Reviewers praised its realistic weapon lethality, varied difficulty levels and the sense of true‑to‑life special‑forces tactics, earning an 8.5/10 from IGN and a 74 % GameRankings score despite the reduced mission count. Even with a shorter campaign, the replayability stays high because every mission can be approached with stealth, demolition or a full‑frontal assault.

Storyline

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six on the Nintendo 64 drops you into the elite multinational unit known as Team Rainbow. Formed in 1999 after the post‑Cold War surge in terrorism, the squad is led by John Clark and pulls together the world’s best counter‑terrorists. Early missions have you rescuing hostages, but the plot quickly expands to a global threat.

In 2000 Rainbow is drawn into a series of attacks by the eco‑terrorist Phoenix Group. The group is secretly funded by biotech giant Horizon Inc., whose chairman John Brightling plans to unleash a man‑made Ebola strain called Brahma at the Sydney Olympics. With help from Anne Lang, Catherine Winston and the rogue security firm Global Security, Brightling hopes to wipe out most of humanity.

Rainbow thwarts the Olympic plot, captures Brightling’s collaborators and tracks the mastermind to Horizon’s Ark in the Amazon. After a fierce assault the team secures the Ark, arrests Brightling and stops the pandemic, saving the world.
