Summary

Stunt Racer 64 drops you into a glossy future where classic cars are given turbo‑charged engines, jet packs and the ability to pull flips, barrel rolls and other mid‑air tricks on levitating tracks. Every stunt earns cash, which you can spend on new rides or upgraded parts, even though the upgraded vehicles can’t be sold later.

In Contest Mode you pick one of four characters—Warbird Light, Z‑Bucket, Stottlemeyer or Del Raye—and race through five increasingly tough leagues (Kid Cola’s, Bunny’s, Hill Bully’s, Big John’s and Dr. Death’s). Points are awarded by finish position; only a first‑place finish lets you keep all the money, second place gives you half, and you lose the cash for places three through six. Winning a league pits you against its owner for the owner’s car as the final prize.

Quick Race lets up to four players go head‑to‑head, but cash caps at $1,000 and every $1,000 automatically converts into a Turbo boost. The mode includes two stunt‑only tracks—Half Pipe and Stunt Bowl—and offers a practice option with no AI opponents.

When a car reaches full upgrade a fancier version appears for purchase, but those “upgraded” models can’t be tuned further, nor can the league‑owner cars you win.

The game was slated for a wider retail launch, even in Europe, but missed deadlines scrapped those plans. Critics gave it a respectable 72.5% aggregate, with IGN scoring it 7/10 and Nintendo Power 7.5/10.
